The most cost effective way to cool large snowmaking ponds before the season is to utilize a spray cooling system.
Spray cooling systems can be very effective in cooling snowmaking water. The use of correct nozzles, and system water pressure will eliminate much of the misting and water evaporation losses. Large nozzles with proper water pressure can result in a dramatic water cooling rate due to distance of water stream travel through cold ambient air.
The cost of spray cooling systems is low compared to water cooling towers. However, you need a pond or a water reservoir as a water source for a spray cooling system.
